Surround Yourself With Better People

Surround Yourself With Better People

If you want your situation to change, YOU have to change. The most effective strategy we can use to create lasting change is to actively surround ourselves with people who inspire us.

I want you to promise me that you will spend more time with people who motivate you to be better. Promise me!

Imagine if Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Bethany Hamilton were your crew. Seriously, think about the gems of wisdom they would share, how they would never allow you to quit, the pressure they would put on you to learn more, work smarter, to be great? Just think what one year of friendship with BFFs like that would yield?

Now, think about your current crew. How far is the deficit?

Mind the gap!

I’m not telling you to drop everyone you currently run with but I am saying to do some critical analysis.

Think of the five or ten people you spend the most time with. Are you proud about what they have accomplished? Are you impressed with what they are doing now? Are they passionate about the values you have? Do they inspire you?

If the answer is ‘no’ to all of the above, then it’s time to find new friends.

The biggest single predictor of success (however you want to define it) are the people we ‘kick it with.

So before everything else, spend this year getting your crew right.

This piece came at the perfect time for me. Thank you for putting my thoughts and emotions into words.

Your words couldn’t come at a better time while I’ve seldom have to evaluate my true friends those friends I spend time with face to face. I have however realize that you have to take time to look at who’s your friends on social media and that does lead to a lot of friends being lost because of their actions and words.

So very true! I am a great believer
that being surrounded by positive people helps give the motivation to keep

I recently posted a YouTube video, in addition to writing a blog post, that shared similar sentiments. More so I was focusing on how we have the power to change our situation, and finding happiness is the task we and we alone are charged with. I definitely believe that we are a reflection of the people around us, so it’s crucial to surround ourselves with people that both encourage and inspire us… and that we do the same for them. Just found your blog and will definitely be sticking around!

Hi Paul, I love this…”Think of the five or ten people you spend the most time with. Are you proud about what they have accomplished? Are you impressed with what they are doing now? Are they passionate about the values you have? Do they inspire you?” These are great questions, but what if the people you spend the most time with are your family? What do you do then? Do you get a new family? Do you cut off your family or limit the amount of time you spend with them? What if you’re a teenager? Are you supposed to… Read more »

Dear all,

What if our spouse are the one dragging us behind? Should we divorce them and find a better one?

No! “For better AND for worse.” A spouse isn’t like a car that you can sell when you’re no longer happy with it. Nor is it a casual relationship that you can just drop when you don’t like the direction it’s headed in. Prayer and patience are ingredients for supernaturally transformation, even that of spouse who is “dragging [you] behind.”

I pray your situation gets MUCH better!

I’ve had to drop SEVERAL people, some even without explanation, over the past few years. It hurt and it was hard, but it was absolutely necessary. When you figure out that you’re just a pretty face in someone else’s entourage instead of an inspiration or “iron sharpening iron,” that’s usually a grand time to make your exit!

I agree in principle, but we also need to be there for people who may not have all that we have, emotionally, and need our strength and our confidence and our belief. So, we need a balance.

true, except most people form cliques and don’t take too kind to newcomers. Either that or they are too busy getting their thing on that they don’t have time for others.
