In this episode, Paul and his guest, Marcus L. Howard share knowledge about the importance of mentors and mastermind groups in business and entrepreneurial success. Paul opens the session with a real-life story shared with him by a Washington, DC cab driver punctuating the importance of the information and lessons to be learned from this value-packed episode.
Marcus also came bearing many gifts. He not only shares amazing business information, but he also brought along five FREE passes to Massage Envy. Say, “aaaaaaah,” #MentorMonday winners. And wait until you hear why Marcus chose this gift and WHO he chose to give one to…
This was an hour packed with such great information you will want to listen, take notes and act upon what you learn – so that you, too, can get F.O.C.U.S.ed!
Marcus L. Howard is the founder of Antermology, Inc. He has spent just under a decade studying leadership and entrepreneurship working with entrepreneurs and CEOs under 30. He says of himself as a serial entrepreneur with a mixture of his own entrepreneurial failures and successes, “I’ve always been a lifelong learner, [and have] wanted to have greatness in my life, greatness requires you to do things that other people won’t do, so I took the 10,000-12,000 hours to become successful in my life.”
On Getting F.O.C.U.S.ed
When Marcus got to Georgetown he realized quickly that he was surrounded by really smart people from whom he could learn a great deal “better to ask questions then to try to prove how smart I was…and they didn’t care [how smart I was] anyway.”
Marcus shares some startling statistics about the success and failure rates and revenue of businesses. But, he also provides great information to buck those stats. He speaks directly to how to maximize your network to ensure your success in business. He also speaks from the heart about the importance of knowing your “why” when making the decision to become entrepreneurs.
He breaks down the framework he created to help top agencies and companies garner success, and now you can too, with FOCUS:
Find your passion
Organize your TEAM (Time, Energy, Actions and Money, for the solopreneurs)
Commit to a plan
Utilize your mentors
Suspend your disbelief.
From Paul’s perspective mentorship is, “the most successful ingredient in entrepreneurship…and has helped [him] immensely, mentors [and] mastermind groups.” Marcus provides unique thoughts on obtaining the best mentors for your needs, and, yes, even compensating those mentors. He speaks to the positive side of selfishness, his experiences with masterminds and getting an hour for 20 minutes!
“Don’t reinvent the wheel just grease it.” Check out the other tweetables from this session…
On The Importance of Participating in Mastermind Groups
On the importance of Masterminds, Marcus feels that the knowledge and information related to his industry and relationships that have been forged from those masterminds are invaluable.
“There’s always someone who’s [waking up earlier than you],” when you’re in a mastermind with those folks they are your friends and can teach you versus being your competition.
As #MentorMonday participant, Beth Orchard, said in the live chat, “Think about this: we’re getting content worth thousands for free thru Paul’s Spreecasts. It’s up to us to beat that statistic of making it or not as an entrepreneur. Be teachable and learn. So excited to be part of this community!”
Well said, Beth, well said.
A Love Connection?!
Then Paul shifts gears, because #MentorMonday wouldn’t be a complete event without Paul exhibiting his prowess as a matchmaker…check out how Paul gives Marcus the floor to exhibit his own swagger when he sees a lady he likes in the #MentorMonday viewing audience! After all, according to him he likes, “smart girls with big hearts.” Did he find one?!
Watch Marcus get his swag on with #MentorMonday participant and one of the five Massage Envy spa giveaway winners, Gabrielle!
As Paul always says, #MentorMonday is about great people, good vibes, and great information. We know how to have fun!
